My interest in photography began with a Canon AE-1 borrowed
from my father and never returned. The subjects of my earliest
efforts were the multitude of flowers grown in my mother’s
garden. The scenery of Western Nebraska and neighboring regions
now are the primary but not exclusive focus of my photography. I
started with film cameras but now work exclusively with digital
cameras. I am responsible for the entire workflow, from
capturing the image, to processing, printing and matting.
Photography has taught me to see and enjoy the beauty that
nature daily puts on display. The difficult task of a
photographer is to try and do justice to the scenery. No matter
how nice a photograph appears, it will never completely capture
the beauty of our natural world. I hope you will regard these
photographs as a reasonable attempt; and that they may help to
nurture your feelings for our environment and perhaps rekindle
your appreciation for the beauty of Western Nebraska.
My wife Sally deserves special mention. Not only is her
support essential but her critical comments are invaluable. I
may claim credit for these photographs, but, truthfully, it has
been and will continue to be a collaborative process.
My photography is also evolving. I
continue to learn from viewing the work of other photographers,
both famous and not so famous. Trial and considerable error has
been a very effective tool for me as I try to improve the
quality of the photographs. The galleries on this site are
representative of my work. I have many others printed and
available for viewing.
I would like to hear your comments about these galleries of
photographs and the web site. The photographs are available for
sale in several sizes and formats. I also have greeting cards
available, and I prepare calendars using the photographs taken
during the previous year’s travels.
Sincerely,
Jim
